Elena Kagan

Following Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan is fourth female and the 112th Justice confirmed to the United States Supreme Court. Also like Sotomayor is a native New Yorker, born and raised in New York City. President Barack Obama nominated her to the United States Supreme Court in May of 2010 as Justice John Paul Stevens was retiring. Elena Kagan received confirmation later that same year and in October 2010, she became a United States Supreme Court Associate Justice.

Prior to ascending to her current position in the Judicial branch of government Elena Kagan’s career took her through a path that started as a University of Chicago Law School professor and then led to multiple positions in the Clinton Administration. After this period, Elena Kagan returned to teaching and Harvard Law School provided an outlet for her as a professor there where she eventually became dean.
